The law on cookies
Cookies are small text files that a web server installs on the browser of your computer or mobile device when you visit a site. Cookies include a unique code that enables us to recognise your browser while you are browsing the site (known as a session cookie), or on future repeat visits (known as a permanent cookie). Cookies can be installed by the server of the site that you visit or by partners working with this site. The web server can only read cookies that it has installed itself; it does not have access to any information on your computer or mobile device. Cookies are stored on your computer or mobile device, in your browser’s directory. The content of a cookie generally consists of the name of the server that installed it, an expiry date and a unique numerical code. Cookies generally make interaction between the visitor and the website easier and quicker and help the visitor browse the various sections of the site.
